Why must scientists always use “proxies”? Why can’t they measure ALL the glaciers? They might come up with different results. Instead they look at the three that are melting and say it’s happening to all of them. That’s not science. It’s junk science.

People living in states that depend on glacial meltwater for drinking and irrigation better wise up…fast. Instead of spending money on green this or that, or on expensive energy alternatives to cheap oil and coal, they should spend their money in the search for alternative sources of water.

We need alternative sources of water more than alternative sources of energy.

Adaptation will serve us all much better than any attempts to switch to alternative sources of energy… whether or not manmade CO2 emissions are causing the glaciers to melt.

In the Little Ice Age glaciers destroyed mountain villages in the Alps and priests were enlisted to try and stop their progress by divine intervention. The 17th century was particularly devastating with much loss of life, decline of agriculture and widespread starvation. This is a matter of historical record and easily found.

By 1860 the Little Ice Age was ending and glaciers retreated on a massive scale . By 1900 many glaciers had receded more than two kilometers in just forty years. I wonder what the headline writers would have said back then, or what the blogosphere would have been like.

A good reference on the little Ice Age is Fagan 1999 chapter on LIA “Floods, Famines, and Emperors: El Niño and the Fate of Civilizations” (Basic Books, 1999).

A@ BS – So burning all the oil and coal in the world over the next 100 years (as planned) won’t raise the temp of the earth one bit? Water freezes at 32 degrees F and melts at 33. All its takes is a little change to make a HUGE impact.

Last time I had a fever I felt miserable. My temp was 101. Normal is 98.6, death occurs at 104… so only 2.4 degrees can send a human into misery. Do you think anything may happen if earth temps do rise?

People build green houses for a reason, to keep plants warm during cold times. There is no need for humans to build an artificial green house.

As noted above about the medieval warm period, there have been mines found in Alps after some glaciers retreated. If the trend today has everything to do with CO2 and not natural variation then why was there no ice in this area before?

The only “scientific” proof that has been put forth for man made global warming has been “its getting warmer” (which it stopped getting warmer about 12 years ago) and “there is more CO2 in the air”. All the other papers and research is snake oil.
