NY terror suspect was allegedly in bomb making phase of plot

September 24, 2009

(ChattahBox) — Najibullah Zazi, the 24-year-old shuttle driver at the Denver airport, was indicted in New York on charges of conspiracy to use weapons of mass destruction.  While Investigators previously revealed they found bomb-making instructions on his computer’s hard drive, there seems to be more damning evidence revealed today in an effort to hold Zazi without bond being set.  Apparently Zazi, a naturalized citizen of the U.S., was beyond the planning stage and went from one beauty supply store to another, buying up large quantities of hydrogen peroxide and nail-polish remover, to create a bomb much like those used by the London bombers in 2005. Evidence was also laid out that Zazi searched the Internet for instructions on how to operate a chemical lab, and was using a hotel room in Colorado to try to cook up explosives a few weeks ago before a trip to New York.
The government’s motion indicates that federal counter-terrorism agents have been tracking Zazi for at least a year before he was apprehended prior to entering Manhattan on Sept. 10. On Sept. 19, he was charged with lying to federal agents. Two other men arrested at the same time – Zazi’s father and one-time New York City police informant, Ahmad Wais Afzali, who police say tipped off Zazi that he was under investigation, were released from jail on Thursday, one on bail and the other under house arrest.
