October 4, 2009
Florida (ChattahBox) – A police officer has been put on administrative leave after running over and killing a young man on a bike during a chase.
Officer Jerald Ard saw the man conducting some unnamed suspicious activity, and pursued him. The man jumped onto a bike and pedaled away, with Ard going after him.
According to eyewitnesses who were at a concert, Ard fired a taser at the unnamed suspect. It isn’t clear if it hit him or not, but her swung into a parking lot and crashed his bike.
Shortly after, Ard ran his police car over the man, and the body was dragged 10 or 15 feet before becoming stuck in the car.
“The cop ran up on the curb and hopped out of the car and said, ‘Where are you at?’ The guy was still underneath his car. You can still see his red shoe sticking out,” Jamison Boler, an eyewitness, was quoted by pnj.com.
The name of the young man has not been released, though he has been described as black, possibly a teenager, and with dreadlocks.
The Pensacola Police Department have refused to give further details until the investigation is complete.
