Russia would only risk such action if it felt cornered - that the continued survival of Russia was dubious, given all the factors at play in the world. Joe Biden may be accurate when he said that it would only be a matter of time before Russia collapses. But Russia has no desire to fail quietly and will go down swinging, if at all. If this analysis proves correct, the US will be attacking Iran very soon - all of the diplomacy we see is just pure deception, on the part of the US government, being played out against the enemy. Obama's wavering in Afghanistan will be seen as part of a US troop redeployment effort in preparation to wage war against Iran. Obama being 'furious at' General McChrystal for criticizing the administration is then simply a deceptive skit meant to fool the Iranian Mullahs into believing that the US is focusing on Afghanistan - not, rather, preparing to attack Iran. Assuming that Iran has indeed been discovered to be a partner of Russia in a plot to topple the West by nuclear blackmail and/or nuclear attacks, the role of Russia as a legitimate and recognized negotiator in significant world affairs is doubtful. Unless there is 'regime change' in Russia, we should count on a drastic revival of the Cold War, complete with the weekly sound of air raid sirens being tested for functionality.
