GOP Posts Tweet Linking Pelosi to Hitler, Then Removes it
October 14, 2009
(ChattahBox)—The Republican Party took time off yesterday, from obstructing desperately needed health care reform for Americans, and decided to compare the Democratic Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi to Adolf Hitler. The National Republican Congressional Committee sent a tweet from its official Twitter account, containing a link to a video comparing Nancy Pelosi with Hitler. After being subjected to outrage for the committee’s disgraceful hate-mongering, the tweet was removed.
The tweet read: “Funny Video: Moonbattery: Hitler Reacts to ObamaCare Maneuvers http://bit.ly/2mOvZ7 #Pelosi.”
The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee immediately condemned the vitriolic hate filled attack on Speaker Pelosi:
“House Republicans have gone way too far. The NRCC’s despicable promotion of a video comparing Speaker Pelosi’s effort to reform health insurance in America to Adolf Hitler’s extermination of millions is a shocking new low that must be condemned. Republican Leader John Boehner should order NRCC Chairman Pete Sessions to immediately remove this vile Tweet and apologize,” said said DCCC spokeswoman Jennifer Crider.
NRCC spokesman John Randall referred to the tweet as a mistake. “We obviously made an error in linking to this video and it has been taken down,” said Randall.
In addition to disgracefully invoking Nazism and Hitler to attack Speaker Pelosi, the NRCC just last week, decided to engage in sexism and misogyny. The NRCC issued a press release attacking Pelosi’s stance on the war in Afghanistan saying, that Gen. Stanley McChrystal should “put her in her place.”
And that’s not all. The NRCC posted a petition on its website, to “Fire Nancy Pelosi” the same day the vile tweet was posted.
Right-wing lawmakers have also participated in extreme rhetoric of late, attacking Speaker Pelosi. Recently, Rep. Paul Broun (R-GA), referred to Pelosi, as one of the “domestic enemies of the Constitution,” which he said he pledged to defend against when joining the U.S. Marines.
