Robert Wexler Quitting Congress to Join Middle East Think Tank

(ChattahBox) — The Palm Beach Post is reporting that Rep. Robert Wexler (D-Florida) will resign from Congress to head a think tank promoting Middle East peace. In a conference call with Democratic leaders Tuesday night, the seven-term congressman said he will become director of the Washington-based Center for Middle East Peace and Economic Cooperation. Wexler, who has represented his Delray Beach, Fla.-area district since 1997, is the chairman of the Europe subcommittee of the U.S. House of Representatives Foreign Affairs committee.  With his resignation expected this morning, a special election will have to be held to fill his vacant seat represent Wexler’s overwhelmingly Democratic Palm Beach-Broward congressional District 19.
