Raid Against Ruthless Cartel Leads To Over 300 Arrests

October 22, 2009

U.S. (ChattahBox) – In an incredible raid more than 300 people have been arrested in connection with the La Familia Michoacana drug cartel across 19 U.S. states.

The cartel, which has created a foothold in Seattle, Dallas, L.A., and Atlanta, has quickly risen up to the top of official’s most dangerous criminal organizations, moving beyond the usual violence and drug trafficking of most cartels.

“It is the newest and it is the most violent of the five Mexican drug cartels,” Attorney General Eric Holder explained to the NY Times.

“The sheer level and depravity of violence that this cartel has exhibited thus far exceeds what we unfortunately have become accustomed to from the other cartels.”

La Familia Michoacana is well known for mixing religious ideology with their push of illegal drugs, such as cocaine and meth.

While they claim not to be violent to innocent people in Mexico, they have been named one of the most violent organizations currently working in Mexico and the U.S.

The raids occurred over two days, with the largest ever recorded U.S. raid against a criminal organization including thousands of state and federal agents, police officers, and officials.

It was part of a larger 44 month investigation that comes after promises from President Barack Obama, and Mexican President Felipe Calderon to crack down on drug cartels operating between the two countries.
