Female Fort Hood Police Officer: Stopped Malik Hasan Cold
November 6, 2009
ChattahBox)—Civilian Fort Hood police Sgt. Kimberly Munley is being hailed as a hero today, for immediately opening fire upon alleged mass murderer, Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, who was in the process of gunning down unarmed soldiers waiting to be processed, before being shipped out to serve their country overseas. The petite police officer, was the first responder on the scene and she didn’t hesitate, shooting Maj. Hasan four times, stopping him cold, despite being wounded herself in both legs in an exchange of gunfire with the shooter.
Sgt. Kimberly Munley was nearby when she got the call of a shooting and responded to the scene within three minutes, encountering the gunman on a rampage, acting quickly and decisively. Lt. Gen. Bob Cone, Fort Hood’s commanding general, praised Munley for her brave actions that prevented more causalities. Officer Munley is a “trained, active first responder” who acted quickly after she “just happened to encounter the gunman,” said Cone.
“Really a pretty amazing and aggressive performance by this police officer,” Cone added. Cone was asked if Munley’s shots brought down the assailant and stopped the deadly rampage. “That’s correct,” Cone said. “The critical factor here was her quick response to the situation.”
Colonel John Rossi, briefing reporters at Fort Hood this morning said, “Her efforts were superb.”
Sergeant Munley required surgery for her wounds and she is now in stable condition, recovering in a nearby community hospital.
A photo on her Twitter account shows a pretty and petite woman with a ready smile. Her Twitter biography reveals she is a dedicated and unassuming woman. “I live a good life … a hard one, but I go to sleep peacefully @ night knowing that I may have made a difference in someone’s life,” wrote Munley.
The alleged gunman, Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, 39, an Army psychiatrist, killed 13 people and wounded 30 others. Hasan is in the hospital on a ventilator in stable condition.
Officer Munley is expected to recover from her wounds and will return home to a hero’s welcome for her brave actions.
