Elizabeth Smart Kidnapper Pleads Guilty In Deal Against Her Husband

Utah (ChattahBox) – The estranged wife of Brian Mitchell, the man who kidnapped Elizabeth Smart and held her as a sex slave for nine months, has plead guilty to federal charges.
Wanda Barzee plead guilty, saying that she assisted in holding the then 14-year-old for almost a year after her husband kidnapped her, drugged her, and then raped her daily. Mitchell claimed Smart was a polygamist wife.
“I’m so sorry, Elizabeth, for all the pain and suffering I caused you and your family,” Barzee said in a statement during her hearing.
Smart’s father, who was there in his daughter’s place, said that he believed the apology to be sincere.
Barzee will act as a witness against Mitchell as a part of her deal, which could lead to her facing up to fifteen years in prison.
Mitchell has been named incompetent to stand trial in a state court. However, he is being evaluated in order to possibly be tried in a federal court.
