Sen. Coburn’s Scary Message to Seniors: ‘You’re Going to Die Sooner’

December 1, 2009

(ChattahBox)—The Senate health care reform bill is now going through the lengthy debate and amendment process. And that means Americans, and especially our senior citizens, will once again be subjected to contemptible Republican scare tactics. The latest participant in the GOP death panel Mambo is Sen. Tom Coburn (R-OK), “The Family” member and the payoff broker between disgraced Sen. John Ensign ( R-NV) and the husband of Ensign’s mistress.

Coburn got right to business this afternoon and fear-mongered seniors to death! (almost literally) In a speech trashing the Senate health reform bill, Coburn delivered an important message to America’s senior citizens: “You’re going to die sooner!

Sen. Coburn falsely claimed that the Senate health reform bill would result in rationed care for seniors, which would shorten their life expectancy. Coburn said, that the Senate bill “is going destroy the best care health system in the world.” However, the so called “best care health system in the world,” is responsible for the deaths of about 45,000 Americans every year, who don’t have access to health care coverage.

The right-wing lawmaker from Oklahoma then warned that the government would come between seniors and their doctors causing their untimely deaths:

“It’s the start of the government practicing medicine. It is the beginning of our seniors to have the government step in between them and their physicians in terms of the physician wanting to do what’s best for that senior and the government saying, ‘no I’ll tell you what you’re gonna have.‘”

“I have a message for you: you’re going to die sooner. And they are going to—that isn’t true, that isn’t true. When you restrict the ability of the primary care givers in this country to do what is best for their senior patients, what you are doing is limiting their life expectancy.”

Coburn then proceeded to paint a scary scenario of sick seniors lying helpless in their hospital beds, pushing the nurse’s call button for life-saving help, but no one is available to come to their aid due to rationing.

‘ Coburn said, that the Senate bill “is going destroy the best care health system in the world.”’

I’d be interested to know how the Senate bill, which is under consideration as a US law, could destroy the best health care system in the world. I am pretty sure that if we tried to do that, the French, who actually own the best health care system in the world (and which, incidentally, is 100% a *socialist* health care program), would consider it a hostile act and respond appropriately. And while we Americans may disparage their ground war capabilities, it should be noted that France has the H-Bomb.

So, Senator Coburn, please do tell us, how will this Senate bill destory the French health care system? Or were you, perhaps, LYING THROUGH YOUR TEETH LIKE ALL THE OTHER REPUBLICAN POLITICIANS?

Citation: The US was ranked 37th in health care by the World Health Organization in 2000, but ranked number 1 in health costs. See The Boston Globe for Wednesday, June 21, 2000 and http://www.photius.com/rankings/healthranks.html

Uhh, Medicare is a government program Mr. Coburn… You can’t have it both ways. If a government program is the “best in the world” how will government regulation of it “destroy” it? Just doesn’t make any sense….
