Rep. Parker Griffith Receives Mixed Response Over Party Switch
December 22, 2009
U.S. (ChattahBox) – Rep. Parker Griffith (D-Alabama) has chosen to switch sides, citing the choices of the Democratic Party as his reason behind the switch. But while some on the Right are happy about the switch, others have spoken out about it.
The move for Rep. Griffith to the Right won’t come as a shock to many, considering some of his recent votes. He voted with the Republican minority against equal pay for women, financial regulatory reform, and both the health care and energy bills put forth by the Left.
So when he suddenly announced that he was giving up on the Dems and moving forward as a Republican, not many eyebrows were raised. Except on the Right, that is.
“That is a huge blow to Barack Obama. Griffith was an extremely endangered Democrat,” Erick Erickson of RedState blogged.
“We should now hope him [sic] be an extremely endangered Republican in a primary. We will not fix the GOP’s problems if we keep allowing people who are not one of us to suddenly switch the letter next to their name and magically become one of us.
“Being a Republican should be about more than just the letter next to a person’s name. We can improve that seat.”
