David Goldman Speaks Of His First Days Reunited With Son
December 28, 2009
U.S. (ChattahBox) – The five year battle for custody is over, and David Goldman finally has nine-year-old Sean back in his custody. But the battle isn’t won yet.
The two have not seen each other for years, since Goldman’s ex-wife went to Brazil for what she said was a small vacation, taking her son with her. While there she filed for divorce, and married a wealthy attorney.
Since then Goldman has been fighting courts to return his son, who, after the death of his late wife, was being set for adoption by his step father.
The Brazilian family of the boy filed appeal after appeal to decisions to bring Sean home to his biological father. It took the support of Hilary Clinton and President Obama to push things forward.
Now, Sean has been returned home with his father, an action that took place on Christmas Eve.
“It’s a miracle,” Goldman said. “There was 364 other days that could’ve been, if he ever were going to come home. But it was Christmas Eve. Somebody’s up there for sure. That’s amazing.
“There are no words to describe the pain and suffering these last five years. And there’s no words to describe how joyous and wonderful it is to be with my son again.”
Sean has yet to call Goldman ‘dad’, and is still struggling to adjust. But the newly reunited father is sure that it will come in time.
“He hasn’t really called me anything, and I think he’s struggling with that. I said, ‘You can call me Dad.’ And he didn’t say anything.
“I missed five years, precious years, of my son’s life. That’s a big scar. But now we’re together. And we’ll heal. And we’ll enjoy and live and love and share and cry and laugh and learn as father and son.”
