Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab Tell FBI “More Like Him In Yemen”
December 28, 2009
U.S. (ChattahBox) – In a story that won’t surprise most, Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab has told the FBI that there are many young men just like him in Yemen waiting to attack the planes within or going to the United States.
The idea that there are other terrorists in the wings waiting to attack the country is not surprising in and of itself. But it is an alarming reminder to the continuing extremism that could cost human lives.
Abdulmutallab was a part of a failed terrorist attack on Christmas Day, where a detonator that linked to explosives in his underwear failed to detonate on Northwest Airlines Flight 253.
The wannabe killer was tackled and held by passengers and staff, and the plane on its’ way to Detroit landed, where he was handed over to the FBI.
Abdulmutallab was raised and educated in London, the son of a wealthy Nigerian banker.
He was a good student, and seen by all spoken to to be pleasant, charming, and enthusiastic.
It was not until his late teens that he appeared to begin the road to extremism, through online chats, emails, and websites.
His father alerted the U.S. Embassy in Nigeria of the possibility of his son being a threat to America, and he was put on a watch list.
His passport and right to fly, however, was not revoked, and an admitted security failure led to his presence on the plane where the failed attack was to take place.
