Gunman opens fire in Las Vegas federal building

January 4, 2010

(ChattahBox) – A gunman opened fire killing two, in the lobby of a Las Vegas federal building Monday morning according to local police. The U.S. Marshals Service says the victims included a 48-year-old deputy marshal who was hospitalized, and a 65-year-old security officer who died. Witnesses heard more than 20 shots during the sustained barrage of gunfire, at 8 a.m. in the lobby of the multi-story Lloyd D. George Federal District Courthouse, just south of the aging casinos on Fremont Street.
The gunman who’s identity has not yet been revealed, never made it through security and was shot in the head and killed at a building across the street from the initial gun battle.  A spokeswoman for the city’s police department said, “It looks like he went in there and just started unloading.”  Authorities believe the gunman acted alone.
