One, the sign compared Congress to slaveowners and taxpayers to slaves. Calling them “niggar” was definitely stupid and offensive, but given the actual message of the sign it’s fairly up in the air as to whether the sign was actually inciting hatred towards or being derogatory of black people. My father used to use the word nigger but in his lexicon it basically meant “stupid, ghetto-attitude, low-class” and he applied it pretty equally to the stupid and low-class people he met regardless of the color of their skin. PC? Heck, no. Foolish? Definitely. But racist? Hardly.

Finally, the fact that by your own report, the rest of the tea partiers booted him out of the protest should adequately prove that whether the message was intended to be derogatory or not, the majority of the crowd was not behind it.

I hate to say this but this idot holding this sign lives in Stafford, Texas and I live in Stafford, Texas. As a Black 50 year old female having lived in this area for the past 30 years I have to say only recently have I begun to see signs of racism. I guess the people have been racist the entire time however, they were undercover. Apparently this Tea Party business has given these people the “balls” to come out in the open. I hope they don’t push it too far because Black people will only take so much before things will get heated up. I am willing to bet my next paycheck this guy would not take this sign to Martin Luther King Dr. just down the road in southeast Houston, Texas.
