Palin Who Attended 6 Colleges in 6 years, Attacks Obama as ‘Professor’
January 6, 2010
(ChattahBox)— Sarah Palin the former half-term governor of Alaska has a habit of quitting when things turn difficult. Six-years and six colleges later, Palin finally returned to the University of Idaho, earning a bachelor’s degree in journalism in 1987. And she quit halfway through her first term as governor in a rambling and incoherent speech, citing, among other things, the high legal costs in battling various ethics complaints filed against her. She soon entered a lucrative book deal, with a conservative ghostwriter putting her scattered thoughts and various personal grudges into a tome filled with numerous errors. In between her book-signing tour across red-state America, Palin uses her Facebook page and Twitter account to promote right-wing talking points and lies, such as death panels, which earned the half-term governor a whopper of the year award.
Now, in her latest Facebook entry, Palin chimes in on the Christmas-day attempted terror attack and failures in intelligence gathering, taking cheap shots at President Obama, deriding him as a “professor” and talking tough. And as usual, her nonsensical attacks quickly fall away under the barest of scrutiny.
Palin returned to her usual anti-intellectual meme, suggesting Americans prefer an idiotic chest-thumping leader, rather then the highly intelligent adult President we finally have, who takes careful measure, before making policy changes that affect all of us.
Palin begins her rant, by repeating outrageous statements recently made by the disgraced Fox News pundit Dick Morris and Cheney supporter Mary Matlin, suggesting that former President Clinton was to blame for the deadly terror attack of 9/11:
“We are at war with radical Islamic extremists and treating this threat as a law enforcement issue is dangerous for our nation’s security. That’s what happened in the 1990s and we saw the result on September 11, 2001.”
And as pointed out by Media Matters, Palin then proceeds to make some stuff up:
“Reports indicate that Abdulmutallab [Christmas-day bomber] stated there were many more like him in Yemen but that he stopped talking once he was read his Miranda rights.”
According to Simon Maloy of Media Matters: “I certainly haven’t seen any “reports” to that effect. In fact, CNN reported today that they spoke to law enforcement officials and they “would not say whether [Abdulmutallab is] cooperating or if he was read his Miranda rights.”
Palin then repeats the debunked right-wing argument that a civil federal trial of terror suspects would result in grandstanding and allowing the terrorists to have a platform to spread their anti-American terror. But federal courts don’t allow cameras in the courtroom and federal judges keep a tight lid on high-profile trials. We have prosecuted and imprisoned numerous terror suspects in our federal courts without this “grandstanding” occurring that Palin and other right-wingers keep talking about:
“Giving foreign-born, foreign-trained terrorists the right to remain silent does nothing to keep Americans safe from terrorist threats. It only gives our enemies access to courtrooms where they can publicly grandstand, and to defense attorneys who can manipulate the legal process to gain access to classified information.”
Palin then closes her idiotic attacks with a jab at President Obama’s intelligence and education. Where did eight years of the chest-thumping George Bush “Mission Accomplished” get us? Palin sneers that we need a “real” commander-in-chief and not a “professor” like Obama. What does Sarah Palin know about being a commander of anything? She can’t even hold down a job.
“President Obama was right to change his policy and decide to send no more detainees to Yemen where they can be free to rejoin their war on America. Now he must back off his reckless plan to close Guantanamo, begin treating terrorists as wartime enemies not suspects alleged to have committed crimes, and recognize that the real nature of the terrorist threat requires a commander-in-chief, not a constitutional law professor, writes Palin.
David Weigal of the Washington Independent recently vowed to stop covering Sarah Palin’s Facebook attacks, which are free from any media scrutiny and usually just repeated in the press without fact checking. There is also no way to determine if she actually writes her various postings and Op-ed pieces herself.
“The problem is that Palin has put the political press in a submissive position, one in which the only information it prints about her comes from prepared statements or from Q&As with friendly interviewers. This isn’t something most politicians get away with, or would be allowed to get away with, wrote Weigal.
“I think what Palin’s doing here is incredibly savvy. She knows that anything that goes out under her name will be accepted as fact by conservatives — “Going Rogue” was a 400-page exercise in score-settling that identified, for Palin fans, everyone who ever did her wrong. And she knows that liberals despise her and will pick apart everything that goes out under her name,” added Weigal.
However, “At the same time, I think that the media’s indulgence of Palin’s strategy — which often results in pure stenography of press releases that may or may not have been written by her — is ridiculous, bordering on pathetic, concluded Weigal.
Former Vice President Dick Cheney has apparently taken a page out of Palin’s book, by his delivering his own press releases to Politico, which are then printed without fact checking.
In Weigal’s words: pathetic.
