Poll: EVERYONE in CT Hates Joe Lieberman
January 8, 2010
(ChattahBox)—Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-CT) is perhaps, one of the most hated politicians in the entire the world. Well, at least in his home state of Connecticut, according to a new poll by Public Policy Polling. The poll is bad news for Lieberman’s reelection chances in 2012, as an independent and even as a Republican, showing that a whopping 67 percent of all Connecticut residents disapprove of Lieberman. Holy Joe’s recent antics of dealing in bad faith with the Democratic Caucus, as he held health care reform hostage and threatened to kill the bill, has apparently angered just about everyone; Republicans, Independents, Democrats and probably extra-terrestrials, if they had been included in the poll.
Lieberman’s disingenuous grandstanding of being for a Medicare expansion, before he decided he was against it, led one lawmaker to even suggest he should be recalled, even though no such procedure exists, but still. And a frustrated Senate Democratic Chief of Staff exclaimed, that Lieberman “is playing us for chumps.” Vice President Joe Biden even invoked religion in his condemnation of the treasonous Lieberman, saying “Any Democrat who decides for their own shallow purposes, if that were the case, to scuttle this is, you know in the Southern parts of our states Joe, is not going to have a friend in the lord. You know what I mean?”
In the wake of all of the anger towards Lieberman’s self-serving antics, the poll showed a steep across-the-board decline, with 80 percent of Democrats disapproving of the job Lieberman is doing. Among Republicans, 48 percent disapprove of the the Independent lawmaker. And a whopping 61 percent of Independents in his home state disapprove of his behavior in the senate.
“It all adds up to a 25 percent approval rating with 67 percent of his constituents giving him bad marks,” the study concludes. And in a sign of the anger towards Lieberman in his home state, “Barack Obama’s approval rating with Connecticut Republicans is higher than Lieberman’s with the state’s Democrats,” the poll found.
Regarding Lieberman’s specific antics stonewalling the passage of the health care reform bill, only 19 percent of Connecticut voters approve, with 68 percent opposed. And among voters who support health care reform, 87 percent disapprove of Lieberman’s actions with only 10 percent supporting them. Even among voters who oppose the health care bill in his state, 52 percent disapprove of Lieberman’s actions to water down the bill, wit only 33 percent supporting his measures to aid insurance companies.
These poor numbers would force any sane lawmaker into retirement, but Joe Lieberman’s ego knows no bounds. Perhaps he will attempt to run as a Republican, but with the right-wing teapartiers taking over the party, he would not be welcome. And Connecticut Democrats already tried to be rid of him, when he was primaried during his last reelection bid and lost, leading Holy Joe to run as an Independent. And according to these new poll results, the Independents would not vote to reelect Lieberman.
Lieberman deserves to be cast aside by his constituents in an election. It’s long overdue.
