Ghoulish Robertson Blames Haiti Quake on Slave ‘Pact’ With ‘Devil’
January 13, 2010
(ChattahBox)—Fundamental Christians have the shameful habit of blaming natural disasters on the work of Satan, by implication blaming the very victims for bringing the wrath of God down on them for their sins. And Pat Robertson of the 700 Club appeared on his program today, to lay the blame for the catastrophic Haiti earthquake on a long ago pact made with the devil by Haitian slaves to drive out the French from their country. Historians view the famous Haitian Revolution in the 1700s, as the spark that eventually ended slavery in America. But according to the ghoulish Pat Robertson, a massive earthquake killing thousands of people and devastating an entire country, is the fault of the Haitian people for making a deal with the devil more than 200 years ago.
Despicable, yes. But this is Pat Robertson’s MO. He blamed Hurricane Katrina on God’s omen, and a punishment for the United States. Ice storms in 2007, were attributed to God’s wrath for scheduling talks between Israelis and Palestinians. Oh and let’s not forget 9/11. Robertson and Jerry Falwell blamed the terrorist attacks on abortionists and the gay/lesbian agenda.
Are you seeing the pattern now? These evangelical ghouls use the suffering and devastation after natural disasters to stoke fear and promote their apocalyptic end of days beliefs. And how convenient is that? There is always some bad weather or natural disaster that Robertson and others of his ilk can glom on to and use for their fear-mongering.
During his program today, Robertson claimed that after the slaves made a deal with the devil over 200 hundred years ago, the island country has been cursed ever since:
“And you know Kristi, something happened a long time ago in Haiti and people might not want to talk about it. They were under the heel of the French, uh you know Napoleon the third and whatever. And they got together and swore a pact to the Devil. They said we will serve you if you’ll get us free from the French. True Story. And so the Devil said “OK, it’s a deal.” And they kicked the French out. You know, the Haitians revolted and got themselves free. But ever since they have been cursed by one thing after the other, desperately poor. That island is Hispaniola is one island. It’s cut down the middle. On one side is Haiti, on the other side is the Dominican republic. Dominican Republic is prosperous, healthy, full of resorts, etc.. Haiti is in desperate poverty. Same island. Uh, they need to have, and we need to pray for them, a great turning to God and out of this tragedy. I’m optimistic something good may come.”
