    Additionally, all summer long I officiated for couples coming to CT to wed from all across the country, many of whom have been together for 20, 30 and 40 years! In the 21st century it’s simply a question of fairness.

    Civil rights and civil marriages shouldn’t be put up for popular votes in America.

    Equality is not about the popular vote. Minorities deserve marriage equality. Would you lobby against interracial marriage? Many of our grandparents did. Today we wouldn’t tolerate it. It would violate civil rights.

    Who cares if Meghan is gay? Look at Cheney’s daughter, who is openly gay but doesn’t speak out. Is it possible Cheney put the gag order on her? Either you care enough about civil rights to speak your mind, or you don’t.

    Finally, for the “sanctity of marriage’ folks: your religion is your choice, but don’t assume that yours is the ultimate truth. There are many religions that don’t follow the rules of your bible. You wouldn’t try to pass a law prohibiting US citizens from taking the lord’s name in vein, would you? Of course not. So don’t tell people who they can marry.
