Scott Roeder Convicted of First-Degree Murder

(ChattahBox)—-Scott Roeder on trial in Wichita Kansas for gunning Doctor George Tiller in cold blood, while he attended church services, was convicted on Friday of first-degree murder.The jury only needed 37-minutes to reach a verdict on Roeder’s guilt for a crime that he admitted to. The jury rejected Roeder’s claim that he took the life of Dr. Tiller, who performed legal late-term abortion services, in self defense to protect the lives of the unborn.
Roeder, 51, was also convicted on two counts of aggravated assault for threatening to shoot Reformation Lutheran Church ushers Keith Martin and Gary Hoepner, as he fled the Wichita church after gunning down Tiller.
During Roeder’s testimony, he admitted to pressing a gun to the temple of Dr. Tiller, before shooting it into his brain and taking his life. Roeder, an airport shuttle driver, also admitted that he had been stalking Dr. Tiller, since 1999.
Prosecutor Anne Swegle, said “He was totally remorseless in delivering to you his version of events.” Roeder, testified that he felt relief after murdering Tiller on May 31. After the murder, he drove toward Kansas City and stopped to eat a pizza.
Roeder faces life in prison.
