Terrorists in South Carolina Must Register Before Overthrowing Government

February 6, 2010

(ChattahBox)—The State of South Carolina, home to Appalachian Trail hiker Governor Mark Sanford, and “You Lie” Joe Wilson wants to keep track of terrorists and subversives residing in the Palmetto state. And in a stroke of bureaucratic Orwellian genius, lawmakers have found a way to monitor terrorist activity. It’s called the “Subversive Activities Registration Act,” and requires that subversives pay a $5.00 filing fee and register with the Secretary of State, before overthrowing the government. Genius, right?

The South Carolina blog FitsNews, was right on top of this latest development in a bible-thumping state that has its share of colorful characters and right-wing political blockheads. Just recently, Republican Lt. Gov. Andre Bauer, who is making a run for governor, compared hungry poor people in his state to stray cats and dogs who breed when fed.

Now, there is the loony subversive registration act, which states: “every member of a subversive organization, or an organization subject to foreign control, every foreign agent and every person who advocates, teaches, advises or practices the duty, necessity or propriety of controlling, conducting, seizing or overthrowing the government of the United States … shall register with the Secretary of State.”

A subversive organization is defined as: “every corporation, society, association, camp, group, bund, political party, assembly, body or organization, composed of two or more persons, which directly or indirectly advocates, advises, teaches or practices the duty, necessity or propriety of controlling, conducting, seizing or overthrowing the government of the United States [or] of this State.”

In a Southern state that has plenty of neo-confederate and anti-government militia and “patriot” groups, the law exempts such groups from the law, unless they “contemplate the overthrow of the government.”

So, jihadists and anti-government subversives residing in South Carolina seeking to overthrow the government should be mindful of the new law, or face a $25,000 fine and up to 10 years in prison, if they neglect to register before committing a terrorist act.

They must be off their rockers in the SC legislature if they think that terrorist groups will take a chance at exposing themselves by completing the form with the SOS. It would defeat their purpose.

    You are a moron.

THis bill was written in 1951 and the target was Communist groups which used ot have the overthrow – violent or otherwise – of the US government explicitly in their party platforms.

Maybe the $5 registration fee should have tipped you off this wasn’t passed recently?

If you get a speeding ticket on the way to a tea party, would that be using illegal means to change the government?
