Morning Joe Just Shut Down O’Donnell’s Calling out of Torture Lover Thiessen
February 12, 2010
(ChattahBox)—Joe Scarborough, host of MSNBC’s Morning Joe, just made me spit out my morning coffee. As MSNBC and Huffington Post contributor Lawrence O’Donnell, began to call out former Bush speech writer and torture lover Mark Thiessen for his bashing of Obama’s handling of the failed Christmas Day bombing, Scarbough tried to silence O’Donnell and then dramatically spoke into his mike demanding a commercial break, saying he would return and interview Thiessen alone. Scarborough declared up front that he agreed with Thiessen’s premise that Obama was “inviting” another attack by shutting down the CIA’s torture program.
After the commercial break, despite Scarborough’s threat, O’Donnell remained right where he was. Scarborough said he doesn’t condone “crossfire” on his show, but apparently allowing a torture apologist to lie and smear the President with fear-mongering is just fine.
O’Donnell was given 30 seconds to respond to the doughy moon-faced Thiessen and he made the most of it asking how a rich kid who attended an all boy’s prep school in Connecticut with its own golf course and then who went on to college at Vassar and never served a day in the military, became an expert on torture. Before the commercial break, O’Donnell blasted Thiessen for writing a book declaring that President Obama was inviting a terrorist attack.
Thiessen, in a recent article, “Dead Terrorists Tell No Tales” claimed that the Obama administration’s drone missile campaign to take out and disrupt terrorists in Pakistan has been too successful. Thiessen contends that we should capture and then torture them first, before killing them, to extract information. Thiessen is on a media tour to promote his book, “Courting Disaster: How the CIA Kept America Safe and How Barack Obama is Inviting the Next Attack.”
