Professor Charged In Alabama Campus Shooting, Killed Before

February 14, 2010

Alabama (ChattahBox) – A University of Alabama professor that was denied a promotion has been charged in a shooting that killed three and injured three on the college campus this week.

Amy Bishop was allegedly denied tenure, which would guarantee her job and salary, and opened fire in a faculty meeting.

Two professors and the head of the department were killed, while three staff members were injured, two of which are in critical condition.

Bishop’s husband is also being questioned in relation to the incident.

Bishop has been accused of killing in the past. Twenty four years ago she shot her 18-year-old brother in the chest, though it was ruled an accident and never reached a court.

Police from her hometown of Braintree said at the time that while it was ruled an accident they believed it to be deliberate, following an argument.

Bishop is a Harvard educated neurobiologist who has been at the University since 2003.
