Mitt Romney Threatened by Unruly Passenger on Plane

February 16, 2010

(ChattahBox)—Mitt Romney, former Republican governor of Massachusetts and perennial presidential hopeful, may never fly economy class again. As he and his wife were on board an Air Canada flight, after a visit to the Vancouver Olympics, Romney asked a passenger in front of him to move his seat to the upright position before takeoff. The passenger took offense and tried to punch Romney.

According to the account in the Globe and Mail:

“Mr. Romney, 62, and his wife, Ann, were sitting in Row 15 of the economy section of the Embrarer 190 airplane, waiting for the plane to take off when the incident happened. The man sitting in front of Mr. Romney’s wife dropped his seat back and when Mr. Romney asked him to move it upright for takeoff, the man became “physically violent.” Another report said that the man tried to strike Mr. Romney.”

Romney’s spokesman Eric Fehrnstrom, said that Romney didn’t fight back and instead, allowed the flight crew to handle the unruly passenger. “Gov. Romney did not retaliate,” said Fehrnstrom.
