Rubio Offers CPAC Torture Lovers Some Tough Talk

February 18, 2010

(ChattahBox)—CPAC, the annual convention for conservative activists, kicked off today at the Washington Marriot, with a speech from Marco Rubio, the tea party candidate challenging Florida Gov. Charlie Crist for a U.S. Senate seat. Rubio has pandered to the tea party movement’s anti-government, climate change-denying and torture-loving policies and he did not disappoint the right-wing crowd on Thursday. When the baby-faced Rubio started with his tough terror talk about capturing terrorists, the bloodthirsty crowd shouted out “Waterboard them!” And Rubio smiled at the notion of torturing another human being, while the crowd erupted in laughter.

Talking Points Memo reports that Rubio’s tough terror talk, led the crowd to erupt in cheers:

“We will capture them,” he went on. “We will get useful information from them,” he said, to more laughter.”

“And then we will bring them to justice in front of a military tribunal at Guantanamo Bay,” he said, at which point the crowd erupted into cheers.”

This is just the first of violence-infused events at CPAC. As reported by Think Progress, this year’s CPAC also features a Nancy Pelosi piñata and a Harry Reid punching bag for guests to take turns beating:

“Attendees at a conservative conference in town this week will have the opportunity to whack a pinata of Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.).” [...]

“Mary Christopher, outreach coordinator for CivicForumPAC, said the Pelosi piñata will be filled with favorite Pelosi sayings, bills and candy. The party hopes to invite two other well-known D.C. residents to smash the piñata first, before others in attendance will be invited to try to take the Speaker down. We’re hoping to have the females whack the piñata and males try their hand at a Harry Reid punching bag,” Christopher said.”

And as a side note, Rubio also took a shot at President Obama for using a teleprompter, while standing in front of— you guessed it—– a telemprompter.
