Family Holds Out Hope For Missing Chelsea King

March 2, 2010

California (ChattahBox) – Days have passed since the arrest of a sex offender in connection to missing 17-year-old Chelsea King, but her father has said he still holds out hope for her safe return.

Chelsea went missing while hiking a nature trail alone in San Diego County.

John Albert Gardner III (shown), a sex offender who has been previously convicted of conducting sexual acts with a minor under the age of 14, has been arrested in connection with her disappearance.

Her family is still hopeful that Chelsea is alive and out there somewhere, s police and volunteers stake out a search.

“Until I hear differently, I believe she’s alive,” Brent King said.

Gardner’s previous charges had to do with a molestation case with a 13-year-old girl, which he plead guilty to.

A psychiatric report at the time showed that it was recommended Gardner serve a maximum sentence, and stated clearly that he would be a “continued threat to underage girls in the community”.

The maximum sentence is 10 years; prosecutors recommended 6. It is not known how many he served.
