Glenn Beck Denounces Bruce Springsteen’s “Born In The USA” as Anti-American
March 12, 2010
(ChattahBox) – Last month Glenn Beck told thousands of adoring fans at the conservative CPAC conference that: “Progressivism is the cancer in America, and it is eating our Constitution.” Now Beck and his co-host Pat Gray have done some more of their mind bending critical analysis and decided that ‘The Boss’ Bruce Springsteen’s “Born In the U.S.A,” is anti-American” “propaganda” from which people must wake up. Beck was apparently shocked to discover that the song is about a bitter down-and-out Vietnam vet who has been kicked to the curb by the aforementioned USA, therefore critical of America and, thereby, unpatriotic! It probably is beside the point that Springsteen has shown some ‘progressive’ tendencies and supported President Obama during his election run, right?
Gray got things started by noting that Fourth of July fireworks displays often include “Born in the U.S.A.” in the musical medley. Beck then broke into a spoken word version of the song dryly reading Springsteen’s words, almost as if he were imitating William Shatner:
Born down in a dead man’s town
The first kick I took was when I hit the ground
You end up like a dog that’s been beat too much
‘Til you spend half your life just covering up
Born in the U.S.A.
I got in a little hometown jam
And so they put a rifle in my hand
Sent me off to Vietnam
To go kill the yellow man
Born in the U.S.A.
Come back home to the refinery
Hiring man said, son if it were up to me
I go down to see the VA man
He said, son you don’t understand
This went on for some time, until Beck concluded, “Where are the fireworks?”
Beck goes on to say:
“That’s what it’s all about. That’s what America’s all about, according to Springsteen. … It’s time for us to wake, wake up, out of our, um, dreamstate. Wake up out of the propaganda. The, you know, this is the thing that, people who come from the Soviet-bloc or Cuba, they’re all saying, ‘How do you guys not hear this? How do you not see this?’ Well, that’s ’cause we don’t ever expect it.”

I like this Beck guy the first time I heard him…when we went by the name Rush Limbaugh. What an idiot.
“Progressivism is the cancer in America, and it is eating our Constitution.”
Yes, because progress is obviously evil. Progressivism ended slavery in America, and that’s bad because Glenn Beck isn’t Black. Progressivism ended Prohibition in America, and that’s bad because now Glenn Beck can’t report his neighbors for bootlegging while he’s drinking his after-dinner martini., Progressivism ended the attraction of the KKK, and that’s bad because now Glenn Beck can’t organize his mentally-retarded follower to go burn down a Black church and get away with it. Progressivism ended school segregation, and that’s bad because now Glen Beck’s kids (if, God forbid, he has any) will have to go to the same school as Black and Hispanic kids unless Beck pays for a private, segregated school.
Bottom line: Beck is a racist, a bigot, and a lying sack of feces.

a while back Beck ranted on Joni Mitchell’s “Big Yellow Taxi”, and got all weepy and nostalgic about DDT.
he probably thinks Joni’s a bad American too…even though she’s Canadian, lol.
Glen beck is an ass and the most un-American person in this country and is a verbal terrorist

Glenn Beck is just another spoiled brat chicken hawk. As a disabled veteran, I would rather have Bruce backing me up.
The worst part of this Glenn Beck and Limbaugh hogwash is that they are not denounced by regular Americans and respectable media. If liberal mouthpieces were so reckless and bombastic they would be labeled as seditionist and unamerican. This right wing anarchistic froth indicates how far American political discussion has shifted as a result of the public school endoctrination sanctioned and approved by local chambers of commerce and militarist organizations. And it begs comparison to the unequal politics of the Weimar Republic as reactionary nationalism triumphed over progressive governance.
