Palin Joins Right-Wing Armed and Dangerous Mob: ‘Reload’!
March 24, 2010
(ChattahBox)—-The mood of right-wing Americans has turned hysterical, ugly and violent, with the help of fearmongering TV and radio pundits and Republican lawmakers. And Sarah Palin, the half-term Governor of Alaska, Fox News contributor and soon to be reality TV star, (Is Dancing With the Stars Next?) has decided she won’t be left out of the right-wing armed and dangerous crowd, using violent infused rhetoric and apocalyptic falsehoods. Yesterday on Twitter, Palin tweeted an inflammatory call to action for her followers to “reload” in their battle against Democrats and healthcare reform. Her tweet led her followers to her Facebook page, which contained an image of a map of the U.S., showing bullseye crosshairs on the state districts of targeted Democratic lawmakers who voted for the bill. She then urges her followers to contribute cash to her SarahPac, in a first “salvo” in the battle to defeat Democrats.
After the passage and signing into law, of an historic healthcare reform bill that makes long overdue and sweeping changes in our nation’s broken healthcare system, the right-wing has sunk into apocalyptic hysteria. Michael Steele, Chairman of the Republican National Committee, declared the healthcare reform bill “Armageddon.” And leading up towards passage of the bill in the House on Sunday night, Republican lawmakers were whipping groups of confused and angry teapartiers into frenzied mobs, with falsehoods and inflammatory speech. Even while the House was in session, some Republican lawmakers were seen on the Capitol building balcony waving “kill the bill” signs to the chanting tea party protesters in the streets below, after the day before, teapartiers abused, spat and hurled racial and bigoted slurs towards Democratic lawmakers.
And in a frightening development, one right-wing activist-blogger and former militia member, posted on his blog, a call to action for “Sons of Liberty” opposing healthcare reform to engage in violence and destruction, by throwing bricks through the office windows of Democratic lawmakers across the country. So far, several Democratic offices have reported acts of vandalism, including the Tuscon office of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-AZ), the Monroe County Democratic Committee headquarters in upstate New York, Rep. Louise Slaughter’s (D-NY) Niagara Falls office and the Sedgwick County Democratic Party headquarters in Wichita.
Attached to the brick hurled through the window of the upstate New York Democratic office, was a threatening and misspelled note quoting conservative Barry Goldwater: “Exremism [sic] in defense of liberty is no vice.” And Rep. Slaughter, also received a frightening recorded message on her campaign office answering machine threatening the murder of lawmakers’ children: “Assassinate is the word they used…toward the children of lawmakers who voted yes.”
And that’s not all. A Lynchburg Tea Party leader published the home address of Rep. Thomas Perriello (D-VA) on his blog, encouraging enraged teapartiers to “drop by” the lawmaker’s home for a “personal” and ” face-to-face chat.” But the teapartier in question, Mike Troxel, published instead, the home address of Rep. Perriello’s brother, who has four children under the age of eight. Troxel refused to remove the address from his blog. As a result, Politico is reporting that local law enforcement is investigating an incident at the brother’s home, which occurred after his home address was posted on the Virginia teapartier’s blog.
Against this violent backdrop, Sarah Palin decided to irresponsibly make use of violent and inflammatory rhetoric using gun language in her tweet message:
Palin’s Facebook page makes use of tired discredited GOP claims of a “transformative government takeover of our health care system today.” And she then targets “those House members who voted in favor of Obamacare and represent districts that Senator John McCain and I carried during the 2008 election.” She continues with her violence infused language, saying “We’ll aim for these races and many others. This is just the first salvo in a fight…”
Political leaders and elected officials are expected to be responsible with their public statements and not condone or incite behavior that could lead towards violence. Sarah Palin and other GOP leaders have fallen way short of this standard of late.
