Teens Charged For Bullying Raped Teen To Suicide
March 30, 2010
Mass. (ChattahBox) – A group of teens have been arrested and charged with various charges after it was found that they bullied a 15-year-old Irish immigrant so badly that she committed suicide to escape her tormentors.
Phoebe Prince was an English-born girl who moved to Ireland at the age of three, until her move to the U.S. a few years ago.
She had some kind of unspecified relationship with a well known boy at the school, which led to a campaign of tormenting from a group of other students, including text messages and Facebook posts that once again seem to illustrate an increasing problem of technologically advanced bullying.
Prince ended up committing suicide in January, leading to an investigation into bullying allegations that had been reported months before.
According to police, four girls and two boys have been arrested in connection to these reports, and have been charged with assault, violation or civil rights, and statutory rape.
Three other girls, believed to be younger than the group, have been charged with delinquency.
Staff at the school knew about the bullying, which was brought to their attention by bother students and Prince’s parents. They are not set to be charged with any crime.
