Man Charged Making Death Threats Against Sen. Patty Murray: ‘Baby Killer,’ ‘You are Marked’
April 6, 2010
(ChattahBox)—Charles Alan Wilson, 64, a resident of Selah, Washington angry over the passage of the healthcare reform law, with a foul mouth and armed with Fox News’ falsehoods, was charged on Tuesday with making multiple death threats against Sen. Patty Murray (D-WA). Wilson’s unhinged voice mail messages, went on for months, but became more violent beginning the day the law was passed on March 22. His death threat messages are filled with misogynistic slurs, expletives and numerous threats to ‘kill,” “hang,” and “assassinate” the Democratic lawmaker who voted for the healthcare bill. “I hope you (expletive) die. I want to (expletive) kill you,” ranted Wilson in one message. And in another, he ominously declared, “it only takes one piece of lead.”
The F.B.I traced the violent messages to Wilson’s blocked home telephone. And to ensure that he was indeed the man responsible for making the death threats against the U.S. Senator, a F.B.I. agent phoned Wilson posing as a member of the anti-healthcare reform group, Patients United Now. Wilson was easily fooled and admitted to making telephone threats against Murray, as well as Sen. Maria Cantwell (D-WA). The Selah, Washington resident told the agent that both Murray and Cantwell and “need to be strung up, and I mean put [in] the gallows.” He called the two senators “Pike Street whores” and referred to Murray as “sneaker shoes Murray.”
Wilson also bragged to the undercover agent that he carried a .38 firearm. “I do pack, and I will not blink when I’m confronted. … It’s not a threat, it’s a guarantee,” said Wilson during the recorded phone call. The F.B.I. confirmed that Wilson does own a .38 revolver and he also holds a valid concealed weapons permit.
The press release from the U.S. attorney pointed out that Wilson’s death threats “crossed the line” and rose to the level of a federal crime, when he “discussed assisting others in an attempt to kill the senator.”
Assistant U.S. Attorney Todd Greenberg, said “Free speech is the cornerstone of our democratic process, and we are a country of vigorous debate.” “However, threats of violence have no place in that debate. The threats here crossed the line, and violate the law.”
“According to the criminal complaint, between March 22 and April 4, 2010, WILSON called Senator Patty Murray’s office on multiple occasions leaving expletive laden threatening messages. WILSON stated that Senator Murray “had a target on her back.” WILSON stated, “I want to (expletive) kill you.” WILSON discussed assisting others in an attempt to kill the senator. WILSON’s threats were in response to the passage of the Health Care Reform Act.”
Wilson’s violent messages are notable for echoing rhetoric from right-wing lawmakers and Fox News pundits, such as the term “baby killer” recently shouted on the House floor by Rep. Randy Neugebauer (R-TX) and “socialism.”
Read some of Wilson’s voice mail death threats placed on March 23, from 10:19 a.m. to 5.07 p.m., in which he also threatens the life of President Obama:
“With the passing of your health-care bill it is living proof now that… This great country that believes in God and guns. Since you’ve done this, there’s going to be some bigger targets on your (expletive) back… I hope somebody kills you, and I hope somebody kills [the President]. Yes, die, dead. You’re signing my death warrant so I want to sign yours, (expletive) bitch.”
“I hope you (expletive) die. I want to (expletive) kill you. I hope somebody (expletive) hangs you, blows your (expletive) brains out. We will not be socialized, you (expletive) cu*t. Get it through your (expletive) head. You have—You are a marked person for the rest of your (expletive) life, you (expletive) slut.”
“Kill the (expletive) senator! Hang the (expletive)senator! I hope somebody puts a (expletive) bullet between your (expletive) eyes. Far left liberal socialist democratic bitch. You (expletive). You sold the (expletive) people of the country out for socialism. I hope somebody (expletive) erasers your (expletive) life. Yes, I hope somebody assassinates you, you (expletive)bitch.”
“Not only so I say, “Kill the bill!” I say: “Kill the (expletive) senator! Hang the (expletive) bitch! Hang that mother-(expletive) bitch from a (expletive) gallows!” Kill the bill, kill the senator, too…”
“I do believe that every one of you mother (expletive) socialist democratic progressive mother (expletive) need to be taken out. Put in front of a (expletive) firing squad and shot between the (expletive) eyes. Assassinated, you (expletive) low-life. There is a growing hatred, my dear, for you progressive socialist Democrats. Socialism will not work. There is a growing hatred. And guess who caused it? You, you!”
“(expletive) you socialists up the ass. You’re dead (expletive) meat, Murray! You’re dead (expletive) meat! Baby killer, Murray. I hope somebody gets through your security and blows your (expletive) brains out, you (expletive) baby killing (expletive) bitch. Yeah, you (expletive) spineless (expletive) whore. You Pike Street (expletive) whore. I hope somebody gets through your security and blows your (expletive) brains out, you (expletive) baby killer. Blows your (expletive) brains out. We will not be socialized, you (expletive) cunt. Get it through your (expletive) head. You have—you are a marked person for the rest of your life, you (expletive) slut.”
In February, a Washington State tea party speaker told an assembled crowd that she wanted Sen. Murray to be hanged.
Threatening a federal official is punishable by up to 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
