Diplomat Behind United Bomb Scare Planned to Visit Jailed al-Qaeda Agent
April 8, 2010
(ChattahBox)— There is an interesting twist to the mid-air bomb scare initiated by a Qatari diplomat who stole a smoke in the lavatory, and sarcastically quipped to air marshalls that he was “Lighting my shoes on fire.” The Associated Press is reporting that the diplomat, Mohammed al Modadi, was en route to a Supermax prison in Colorado to visit convicted Qatari terrorist Ali Saleh Kahlah al-Marri.
According to the report, Al Modadi was tasked with making an official visit with Ali Al-Marri, charged with one count of conspiracy to provide material support to a foreign terrorist organization:
“A State Department official and another person close to the matter say Mohammed Al-Madadi was going to meet Ali Al-Marri for an official visit. Consular officials frequently visit foreigners held in the United States to make sure they are being treated well.”
Ali Al-Marri was the last enemy combatant held on United States soil, before he was sentenced to eight-years at the Florence Supermax prison in Colorado.
Meanwhile, Al Modadi is being recalled home to Qatar, for his reckless behavior which caused a bomb scare on a United Airlines plane bound for Denver. U.S. officials agreed to not press charges against the jokester diplomat needing a nicotine fix, on the condition that he would leave the United States.
