Obama’s Supreme Court Picks Should ‘Declare’ if Gay, Says Activist
April 29, 2010
(ChattahBox)—Peter LaBarbera, president of the rabidly anti-gay hate group Americans for Truth About Homosexuality, wants candidates for the U.S. Supreme Court to be forced to declare if they are gay. Yes, LaBarbera claims Obama’s SCOTUS picks should be subjected to a sexual orientation litmus test. And even if they are not gay, but are liberal lefties who have a “special interest” in what LaBarbera calls the radical homosexual agenda, that needs to be disclosed as well. Why? Well, that’s an easy one. The answer is the standard fall back rationalization for the right-wing’s hateful kookiness. “Americans’ freedoms are at stake,” of course.
Besides disclosing homosexuality or support for gay rights, LaBarbera also is targeting candidates who experienced a gay sexual encounter at any time in their lives. Basically, if you have ever known a gay person or passed a gay person on the street, you should publicly declare it, because the “public has a right to know.” says LaBarbera. And he doesn’t limit his gay test just to SCOTUS candidates. He wants all politicians to declare their sexual orientation:
“I think it’s time that the public be informed if a politician or a high court nominee has a special interest in homosexuality — that is, they are practicing homosexuality or maybe they once practiced homosexuality,” the AFTAH president contends. “I think the public has a right to know.”
“They will affect Christians and people of faith who oppose homosexuality,” he notes, pointing out that “we came within one vote on the Supreme Court of the Boy Scouts losing their freedom not to hire openly homosexual and atheist Scout masters.”
“But LaBarbera adds that homosexuals are not the only ones who promote their causes, as many heterosexual liberals are equally as pro-homosexual in their politics as activists. The AFTAH president fears Americans’ freedoms are at stake, so he feels the public should be provided the knowledge.”
LaBarbera pointed out that he felt the need to call for a sexual orientation test, after questions were raised in the media about some of President Obama’s possible SCOTUS picks. Specifically, CBS posted unsourced claims from a right-wing blogger alleging Solicitor General Elena Kagan was openly gay. The White House responded that CBS was “applying old stereotypes to single women with successful careers.”
The posting was removed, when the blogger admitted he was repeating a rumor.
Someday, sexual orientation won’t be an issue. Until that day comes, LaBarbera and others like him will have an audience for their hate.
