JD Hayworth Wants Apology From ‘Los Suns’ for Nazi Comparison
May 7, 2010
(ChattahBox)–JD Hayworth, extremist birther extraordinaire, nativist, former disgraced U.S. Congressman, former wingnut talk radio host and now, Republican tea party primary challenger to Sen. John McCain in Arizona doesn’t like “illegals.” He wants an apology from the Phoenix Suns for their protest to the “Show me your papers” anti-immigration law. When explaining his opposition to the law, team general manager Steve Kerr compared the onerous measure to Nazi Germany. Racial profiling and demanding residency papers from brown-skinned residents is nothing like Nazi Germany, not even remotely, complained Hayworth.
To protest the draconian Arizona anti-immigration law, the Phoenix Suns wore “Los Suns” jerseys during their Wednesday night playoff game in Phoenix, which also coincided with the celebration of Cinco de Mayo. Kerr expressed dismay at a law that makes it a crime to be brown in Arizona. “It’s hard to imagine in this country that we have to produce papers,” Kerr said. “It rings up images of Nazi Germany.”
“For [Suns General Manager] Steve Kerr to make comparisons with this law with Nazi Germany is beyond the pale,” he said. “He should apologize, that has no basis in fact. In the law are these words: Respecting the civil rights of all persons,” Steve’s a smart guy, but I bet he hasn’t read the bill.”
But Hayworth couldn’t just stop there—nope. He had to delve into offensive Latino racial stereotypes about undocumented immigrants:
“Does he [Robert Sarver] want a bunch of people showing up tonight, basically walking into the arena without tickets, taking the best seats in the arena for tonight’s game, demanding free food and drinks and then after the game demanding unfettered access to the players? Of course not,” said Hayworth.
