GOP Rep. Gohmert: Sexy Miss USA Pics Will Cause ‘Economic Chaos’
May 13, 2010
(ChattahBox)—Rep. Louie Gohmert’s (R-TX) extremist right-wing foolishness breaks the scale of the Congressional buffoon meter. When commenting on the controversy surrounding Miss USA’s sexy lingerie photos of this year’s contestants, he said they would ultimately lead to “economic chaos.” And for good measure, Gohmert, a strong opponent of the hate crimes law, added that men dressed in garter belts and fishnet stockings would receive protection against discrimination. Huh?
Miss USA pageant officials have been receiving negative media attention for the racy black and white photos of all 51 contestants, wearing skimpy lingerie, high heels, tousled hair and pouty expressions.
During Fox News’ Sean Hannity’s show, he characterized the risqué photo shoot, as a breakdown in society, asking his panel “What does this tell us about society?”
Appearing on Hannity’s Great American panel was Louie Gohmert, who once compared healthcare reform to putting “condoms on wild horses.” An although his response was not as colorful as the wild horses analogy, he didn’t disappoint:
Gohmert said the lingerie photos represented “An absolute breakdown in morality.” “And when you lose morality, you get economic chaos. And when you have economic chaos, historically, people have always been willing to give up liberty. And that’s what we’re seeing.”
But he wasn’t finished. Gohmert couldn’t resist getting in a swipe at the recent expansion of the hate crimes law to include sexual orientation:
“If a guy would dress like that, he’s covered under the hate crimes act. He’s protected,” declared Gohmert.
During debate on the Matthew Shepard Hate Crimes Act, Gohmert claimed it would lead to the legalization of necrophilia, pedophilia and bestiality, because the interpretation of sexual orientation is “wide-open.”
“If you’re oriented toward animals, bestiality, then, you know, that’s not something that can be used, held against you or any bias be held against you for that. Which means you’d have to strike any laws against bestiality, if you’re oriented toward corpses, toward children, you know, there are all kinds of perversions,” said Gohmert on the House floor last year.
This year, it’s sexy lingerie photos=economic chaos=dudes in garter belts.
