La. Gov. Jindal Demands Obama Resume Gulf Oil Drilling
June 3, 2010
(ChattahBox)—Shill, baby shill? Well, this is comical. After weeks of shouting hysterically, blaming President Obama for the Gulf oil spill, demanding more federal intervention, while also taking aim at BP, Louisian Gov. Bobby Jindal is now insisting that Obama withdraw the six-month moratorium on Gulf oil drilling. Joined by disgraced Sen. David Vitter (R-LA), Jindal is accusing Obama of placing the region in more peril, by taking away thousands of jobs. But many of the oil wells Jindal is demanding to be reopened, are operated by BP. The White House denied Jindal’s request, pointing out the rather obvious; that another devastating oil spill “would have grave economic consequences.”
In his letter, Gov. Jindal said his state was facing “one of the most challenging economic periods in decades.” “The last thing we need is to enact public policies that will certainly destroy thousands of existing jobs while preventing the creation of thousands more,” wrote Jindal.
And fellow big oil shill, Sen. Vitter, attacked both BP and Obama for the Gulf oil disaster, but inexplicably is demanding that the White House suspend with its safety investigation and end the moratorium on underwater oil drilling:
“Louisiana has been witnessing a severe lack of urgency and understanding from the Obama Administration and BP. Our state and our way of life continue to be under attack from the devastating oil spill, and now to make matters worse, President Obama’s has imposed a moratorium and shut down drilling in the Gulf of Mexico. Unless we lift Obama’s moratorium, it could kill thousands of Louisiana jobs.”
The White House response to Jindal and Vitter’s demands, bluntly points out that the oil drilling stoppage was implemented for a reason:
“The 6-month moratorium on deepwater drilling was instituted for a clear reason: the President believes we must ensure that the BP Deepwater Horizon spill is never repeated. This will allow for the new safety equipment and procedures announced in Secretary Salazar’s May 27th report to be implemented and for the independent commission to review the cause of the spill and analyze the rules and regulations governing offshore drilling.”
Shill, baby shill indeed.
