Carly Fiorina’s Open Mic Blunder: Mocks Sen. Boxer’s ‘So Yesterday’ Hairdo (Video)
June 10, 2010
(ChattahBox)–Beware of the open mic. And in Carly Fiorina’s case, also beware of the camera. While prepping for a CNN interview at affiliate KXTV, the newly elected Republican senatorial candidate for California, cattily blathered about Meg Whitman’s “bizarre” choice to appear on Sean Hannity, the day after winning the California GOP primary race for governor. And Fiorina also took aim at her rival, Sen. Barbara Boxer’s hairstyle. The former Hewlett Packard chief executive, performed damage control last night, while appearing on Fox News’ Greta Van Susteren’s program. And who would have predicted this? Fiorina announced she will be appearing on Sean Hannity’s “bizarre” show on Friday.
Fiorina made her hot mic remarks on camera, while having her makeup applied, as she was intently focused on her blackberry:
“It’s really surprising that on the first day of the general, Meg Whitman is going on Sean Hannity,” she said. “I think it’s bizarre…I think it’s a very bad choice actually. You know how he is.”
Fiorina, later alluded to Whitman’s press-shy primary campaign. “Why after saying no to all these people would you go on Sean Hannity?” “Sean Hannity is not an easy interview,” said Fiorina.
In between talking about cheeseburgers, Fiorina took aim at Sen. Boxer’s hairdo, remarking that a friend had seen Boxer on TV that morning and “and said what everyone says.” “God, what is that hair?” A cackling Fiorina then added, “So yesterday.”
Fiorina’s spokesperson dismissed the comments, as “early morning small talk.” But the clip of her catty comments quickly made the rounds of the blogosphere yesterday, after CNN posted the video on its website. It was not the most auspicious start for Fiorina’s first day after winning the primary.
During her appearance on Greta Van Susteren, Fiorina blamed the mocking of Boxer’s hairdo on her quoting of a friend. And she told Van Susteren that her own hairstyle has been “talked about by a million people.”
This is not the first time, Fiorina has been afflicted with foot-in-mouth disease. She was dumped by Sen. McCain’s presidential campaign as a top adviser, after telling interviewers that neither McCain nor Sarah Palin were qualified to run a large company. Her remaining media appearances, were canceled. “Carly will now disappear,” said a McCain campaign official. “Senator McCain was furious.”
Regarding Sean Hannity, Fiorina said she apologized to the Fox News pundit and will be appearing on his show Friday night.
