Gay Republicans to Toss Tea Bags in Sara Palin’s Mouth

June 11, 2010

(ChattahBox)— A group of gay Republicans plan to “take it up a notch” this weekend with a Tea Bag Toss. The event, organized by the Log Cabin Republicans of Los Angeles, will feature throwing actual tea bags into the mouths of cardboard cutouts of politicians, including the open kisser of former half-term governor Sarah Palin. OK, you have this writer’s attention.

The tea bag toss is part of the Los Angeles gay Pride celebration. The Log Cabin Republicans sent out a press release, promising prizes for the successful toss of a tea bag into a politician’s mouth:

“Participants will purchase a tea bag and win a prize if they can successfully throw it through the open mouth of one of three politicians on the game board.”

Besides Sarah Palin, the other tea bag victims are Democrats, gubernatorial nominee Jerry Brown and Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi. Palin was added to the mix, in the spirit of bipartisanship and because she raised the sales tax while mayor of Wasilla, Alaska, which apparently doesn’t sit well with gay Republicans.

Scott Schmidt, president of of Log Cabin-Los Angeles, told the San Francisco Chronicle that the eyebrow-raising tea bag toss was a self-depreciating humorous attempt to draw attention to the LGBT community. “We figured this year we ought to take it up a notch and do something that is engaging and somewhat amusing and shows that we can even laugh at ourselves,” said Schmidt.

The Log Cabin Republicans mission, “is to work within the Republican Party to advocate equal rights for all Americans, including gays and lesbians.”

Well, good luck with that.
