Limbaugh: GOPer Barton’s BP ‘Shakedown’ Apology a ‘Home Run’
June 21, 2010
(ChattahBox)—Hate talker and bloviator Rush Limbaugh, thinks Rep. Joe Barton (R-TX) hit a “home run” with his groveling apology to BP last week, attacking the $20 billion escrow fund as a “slush” fund and a “shakedown.”
Right-wing media and conservative talk radio pundits continue to support Barton’s despicable and groveling apology to BP, a foreign corporation, for President Obama’s extraction of $20 billion for an escrow fund to pay the victims of the Gulf oil disaster. When it came down to the American people vs. the interests of a big oil company, Barton chose BP. And although House Republican leaders pressured Barton to apologize for his apology and use of the term “shakedown,” the 114-members of the Republican Study Committee, issued a statement the day before, attacking the BP victims compensation fund, as a “Chicago-style shakedown.” Where is their apology?
During Limbaugh’s talk radio program on Monday, he hailed Barton’s apology to BP and declared that the victims compensation “slush” fund was indeed a “shakedown” by President Obama:
“Holy cow! Holy cow!—Joe Barton, he must have hit a home run out there the way these people are reacting to this—talking about the slush fund—You know, apologizing last week to the BP execs for ah—being shaken down by the regime. And the reaction to this—Look at this, Wash Post has, as midterm elections loom Democrats zero in on the GOP apology to BP— ahh—It was a shakedown. It was a shakedown, pure and simple. And somebody had the audacity to call it what it was and everyone is running for the hills.”
