Nebraska Town Votes To Bar Illegal Immigrants From Work Or Property

June 22, 2010

Nebraska (ChattahBox) – Voters in the city of Fremont have officially decided that illegal immigrants will be completely barred from any hiring or renting property.

The decision comes after months of protests over the hiring of undocumented workers at local meatpacking plants, which has drawn a great deal of Hispanic workers.

The American Civil Liberties Union has filed a lawsuit against the motion, which was passed by a 57% majority.

Based on this new law, all workers must be verified through a verification process to ensure they are documented, and all renters must procure a license from the city stating their official citizenship status. Anyone who is undocumented will be turned away.
