Teapartier Sharron Angle: No Abortions for Rape and Incest, ‘God Has a Plan’

June 29, 2010

(ChattahBox)— Sharon Angle, the Republican candidate running against Sen. Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) for his seat in the Senate, is so extremist in her right-wing views that her handlers have been hiding her from the mainstream press. Every time she opens her mouth, something more insidiously fringe and rigid spews out. Today, it’s her views on abortion, gleaned from the archives of a January interview given to a local conservative talk show host. She’s pro-life, as are many Americans, but like everything else with Angle, her beliefs go right past Go to crazy town. According to Angle’s Christian beliefs, abortion should be outlawed, even in cases of rape and incest, because it’s “God’s plan.”

Angle, who also advocates privatizing Social Security and Medicare, abolishing the Department of Education, the EPA and repealing the federal income tax, made her remarks during an appearance on Bill Manders’ KKOH talk radio show. When he asked her views on abortion, she suggested that woman should be forced to carry pregnancies to term, even in cases of rape and incest:

“Manders: I, too, am pro life but I’m also pro choice, do you understand what I mean when I say that?

ANGLE: I’m pro responsible choice. There is choice to abstain choice to do contraception. There are all kind of good choices.

MANDERS: Is there any reason at all for an abortion?

ANGLE: Not in my book.

MANDERS: So, in other words, rape and incest would not be something?

ANGLE: You know, I’m a Christian and I believe that God has a plan and a purpose for each one of our lives and that he can intercede in all kinds of situations and we need to have a little faith in many things.”

Even conservative Republicans are uncomfortable with her far, far, right extremist views. Manders recently told The Reno Gazette-Journal that Angle’s right of mainstream views could cost her her the election. She “needs to slide to the left a little bit … not stay way over to the right,” said Manders.

And he told his listeners that Angle was too extreme. “[T]his hardcore right thing is going to kill her,” said Munders adding “it may cost her an election if she doesn’t understand that.”

The specter of a candidate for the U.S. Senate literally running away from the media during a campaign, to avoid having to explain her fringe views, has garnered national attention. The New York Times penned an Angle piece today, in which her campaign refused to comment on, of course:

“There is a game in Nevada called “Where’s Sharron Angle?” that the press is tired of playing. The tradition of political candidates pursuing news coverage has not caught on with Sharron Angle, a Republican hoping to unseat Senator Harry Reid, the majority leader, in Nevada.”

Under pressure from the local media to explain her positions to voters, she has finally agreed to just one interview with Jon Ralston, on his television show, “Face to Face.”

During the primaries, Ralston famously interviewed tea party challenger Sue Louden, during which she advised bartering for healthcare by bringing a live chicken to the doctor.

Ralston’s sit down with Angle should be equally entertaining.
