Jaycee Lee Dugard Gets $20 Million Settlement From California

July 2, 2010

California (ChattahBox) – Jaycee Lee Dugard, who was kidnapped at the age of 11 and held as a sex slave for 18 years, during which time she gave birth to two children, will be given $20 million in a settlement from the state of California.

The settlement comes from the admission that the parole board failed to properly keep a watch on paroled sex offender Phillip Garrido, going so far as to have had police at the door, while Jaycee and her children were being held in the backyard.

Several complaints from neighbors who reported the sounds of children from tents in the back of the house were ignored, and even after he was arrested, and his wife held the three captive, the police did not intervene.

“I don’t know that you can put a dollar amount on the deprived, terrible situation that this person has gone through for over a decade,” Assemblyman Felipe Fuentes (D-CA) told the Detroit Free Press. But he said he felt the settlement was fair.

The amount will help Jaycee and her two children live well as they work to assimilate themselves into society, a feat that will be incredibly difficult. None have any education (except Jaycee, who has not been educated since the age of 11), and the trauma suffered has been severe.

The Garridos are in prison, awaiting trial for rape and kidnapping charges.

Wait, so a girl gets kidnapped, she can swim in a pool, go shopping and carry around the kids and she gets 20 mil. I don’t mean to sound insensitive, but I think not having responsibility in the real world kept her from escaping. She may have liked her captivity, not saying that “liking” wasn’t engineered, but people sometimes get thrown in prison for no reason, and they get off and get nothing, why should she..check out the story
