Brazilian Flamengo Goalie Suspect in Murder of Missing Woman, Toddler

July 7, 2010

Brazil (ChattahBox) – Brazilian authorities are on the lookout for now-fugitive goalkeeper, Bruno Fernandes Souza, as well as his friend, Luiz Henrique Ferreira Romao.

According to CNN, five people, including Souza’s wife, have been arrested in connection to the murder of the goalie’s lover, Eliza Samudio. She has claimed in the past that Souza has beaten and threatened to kill her.

Samudio was seen going to Souza’s country home last month, along with her young child. She disappeared from there, and her body was never found. Police have not released what they believe happened to the toddler.

Souza’s 17-year-old cousin came forward to police, claiming to have been a part of the crime, though authorities are not sure of his story.

In the meantime, the goalie is in the wind, having ran to avoid capture after arrests began of those believed to be involved in the crime.

His career with the Flamengo team has been suspended.
