Poll: 58% of Americans Losing Confidence in Obama

July 13, 2010

(ChattahBox)—It’s all about the economy, stupid. Despite President Obama’s unprecedented legislative achievements in less than two-years in office, the lackluster economy and near double-digit unemployment is souring the mood of most Americans. A new Washington Post/ABC News poll presents a gloomy political environment for President Obama, just four-months before the mid-term elections. The poll shows that 58 percent of all those polled are losing confidence in President Obama’s ability to make the right decisions for the future of our country. The one bright spot? Congressional Republicans fare far worse with Americans.

The poll shows that 68 percent of Americans have either just some or none, confidence in Democrats in Congress. But 72 percent believe the same of Republicans in Congress.

Regarding Obama’s performance on the economy, only 43 percent say they approve of the job he’s doing, with a clear majority of 54 percent disapproving.

As pointed out by the Washington Post, “Both are the worst, marginally, of his presidency. Even a third of Democrats give him negative marks here.”

And the poll finds that a majority of likely voters believe a Republican controlled Congress would offer a check on the presidency.

“Overall, a slim majority of all voters say they would prefer Republican control of Congress so that the legislative branch would act as a check on the president’s policies. Those most likely to vote in the midterms prefer the GOP over continued Democratic rule by a sizable margin of 56 percent to 41 percent.”

The numbers are not pretty.

The entire poll can be found here.
