Pentagon Workers Used Military Email to Purchase Child Porn

July 24, 2010

(ChattahBox)—Yet another report from the Inspector General’s office has documented cases of federal employees using their work computers to view pornographic material. But this time the case is more serious, than SEC workers surfing porn. A report by the Defense Criminal Investigative Service, reveals dozens of Pentagon employees, some with high security clearances, have been caught viewing and purchasing child pornography while at work and from home. The report sounds the alarm for the potential of a serious threat to our national security, exposing the perpetrators to “blackmail, bribery, and threats, especially since these individuals typically have access to military installations.’’

Many of the Department of defense workers caught viewing child porn were caught up in a broader Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operation initiated in 2007, dubbed Operation Flicker. The agency “was conducting a national investigation that identified over 5,000 individuals who subscribed to predicated child pornography websites.” A few dozen of those 5,000 turned out to be DOD workers.

Some of the DOD workers were caught purchasing subscriptions to child porn websites using their official military email addresses, according to the 94-page Flicker report.

“Among the 5,000 names ICE identified under Project Flicker, several individuals used their .mil e-mail address, Fleet Post Office (FPO), or Army Post Office (APO) military zip codes.”

The Boston Globe published an in-depth piece on the 50-page DCIS report, also revealing investigations dating back to 2002:

“The investigations have included employees of the National Security Agency, the National Reconnaissance Office, and the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency — which deal with some of the most sensitive work in intelligence and defense — among other organizations within the Defense Department.”

Some of the more than 30 Pentagon workers caught viewing child pornography, were convicted and sentenced to jail, while others escaped criminal prosecution, because of the difficulties proving criminal wrongdoing in child porn cases. Other cases are ongoing and one contractor with a high-level security clearance, fled the country when he was indicted:

“At least two of the cases were contractors with top secret clearances at the National Security Agency, which eavesdrops on foreign communications, according to the documents. When one of the contractors was indicted two years ago, he fled the country and is believed to be hiding in Libya, according to a summary of the investigation from last year. The other was sentenced in 2008 to more than five years in prison and lifetime probation.”

And there is the case of the DARPA manager caught storing a “large amount of pornography” on his or her work computer, including child porn. But there wasn’t sufficient evidence to bring child pornography charges. DARPA, the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, “is responsible for revolutionary, high-payoff research bridging the gap between fundamental discoveries and their military use.”

A recent New York Times piece on DARPA noted the agency’s technological achievements, including the invention of the Internet.

“In the past, Darpa has supported the design of the ARPAnet, the forerunner of the Internet and many of the technologies that define the modern computer age, as well as military systems including the stealth fighter, unmanned drone aircraft, the global positioning satellite system, and even the M16 rifle.”

DARPA’s top secret military research, as well as other national secrets, are placed at risk, concludes the federal report, “since these individuals typically have access to military installations.’’

Is there a community of hugh level pedophiles within DoD that actively engage in child sex trafficking?
If so, then the children at ALL DoD installations would be their presumed exploitation targets. Moreover, if the employees of the National Recon Office, who oversee the use of satellite imagery, are at the switches then they would be able to access real-time satellite reports and know precisely when the parents of DoD installation target children are at home alone. Then the question arises of how to match images of DoD kids to the NCMEC database and screen their faces to see if they are in any of the myriad child porn cideos and images that the DoD has in it’s possession. This is the PRECISE reason Posse Comatates

My grandparents came here from Europe. They learned the language. They got jobs and paid taxes. They became American Citizens.

We cannot go to Mexico, ,France, or any other nation without a passport or visa, get a job, get free medical care, vote in their elections, and get welfare.

Why is it then that it is expected that people should come to our country illegally and be the recipient of all of the benefits accorded to American citizens?

It appears to me that the people who think so have never worked hard enough to achieve much of anything and live off the system that was supposed to help the needy who could not care for themselves. Instead, there is a vast group of people in this country who live off welfare, and have more and more kids to get more money from the government to avoid having a job, without supporting themselves and their family. Once enough people have assumed this parasitic role, there will not be enough woking people to pay the bills and the country’s ecomomy will collapse as it nearly did last year. The standard of living will decrease for all, and this downward spiral will continue.

This is not to say that big business should get away the financial rape of the people as they have been allowed to do. They worst of the bunch is the health insurance companies who make profit. That should not be allowed. Those companies should be not for profilt by law.

So we have two diametrically opposed groups in this county: those who want big business to make slaves of us all; and the illegal immigrants and welfare parasites who do not want to pay for what they get. This is somewhat of an over simplification, but it captures the essence of the two extremes, both of whom are off track and cause unnecessay pain and suffering for those of us upon whose backs is laid the financial and emotional burden to keep moving in the right direction without throwing up our arms in disgust or taking up arms to take back the goverment that at one time was for the people and by the people. Thomas Jefferson had it right when he said we need to overthrow those in power every twenty years.

Do the words “abysmally stupid” ring any bells? Using work email to engage in illegal activities is stupid, but to do it in a Government job? They must be Texans.

    OMD:

Yes, it was incredibly stupid. Actually, the entire report is filled with stupid. But since they were buying child porn, I’m glad they got caught. And I always thought there was something off about those secret DARPA scientists that make all that crazy stuff, such as bug armies and super soldiers. Just saying.

    But it is cool stuff.

I thought this article was about “Pentagon Workers Used Military Email to Purchase Child Porn?”

Does it say anything about undocumented immigrants, or did I miss the topic when I read the post?

Nope. I just re-read it. No mention of undocumented immigrants.
