Hartford Shooter Killed “Racists” Before Killing Himself
August 4, 2010
(Chattahbox) – A Hartford man who killed nine people claimed in his final phone call that he had “killed the five racists that were bothering [him].” 34-year-old Omar Thornton apparently open-fired at the beer distributorship he worked for while being escorted off the premises. Sources say he had just been given the choice to resign or be fired.
After killing the “racists”, Thornton turned the gun on himself. He had just had a disciplinary meeting with a union representative for reportedly stealing a case of beer from his employer. Thornton, who was described as a “hard-working, mellow man,” had been complaining about racism at his workplace for a long time, and allegedly had a picture on his phone of a noose and the N word that had been written on the bathroom wall at the distributorship.
Nine people died from the shooting, and several more were injured. A spokesman for the distributorship described the company as a big close-knit family and said that Thornton started shooting at a time when the building was the most busy.
