Limbaugh’s Race-Baiting: Obamas Believe Posh Vacations ‘Owed to Them’ Due to ‘Slave Past’

August 7, 2010

(ChattahBox)—Rush Limbaugh peddles hate, fear and race-baiting five-days a week and he’s proud of it, very proud. Why? Because he’s a billionaire. And unlike, our African-American first couple, President Obama and his wife Michelle, Limbaugh has “earned” what he has, according to the hate talker. And the first black President and his family have no business “flying all over the country” living the high life usually reserved for white folks who actually earned it, free from affirmative action programs. According to Limbaugh’s ugly warped view, because of having been “shafted all of their lives because of racial discrimination” and “our slave past,” the Obamas believe “they deserve it.” They feel “This is owed to them,” said Limbaugh with a menacing emphasis on the word “owed.” That’s right, be angry white people, the Obamas are stealing your hard-earned taxpayer money.

Stoking racial resentment is nothing new for the odious talk radio show host Rush Limbaugh, but since the election of Barack Obama, he no longer attempts to hide it. And he’s not alone. The right-wing media led by Fox News, has been conducting an ugly campaign to stoke racial fear with older white voters, as the November elections near:

The black people are taking what’s yours. You work for it and the blacks don’t. Black people feel they are owed retribution and reparations because of slavery. Be angry and resentful white people. Whenever people of color achieve success and wealth, it’s because they are taking from white people. This is the ugly narrative, Rush Limbaugh and Fox News will be spewing over-and-over again, with the aim of ginning up enough fear and racial resentment to draw white independent voters to the polls come election day, to cast their votes for a Republican and against that uppity black guy in the White House, living the high life off of your money.

It’s ugly, and it’s a shameful type of racial politics that is tearing our country apart. You read Limbaugh’s own words and listen to him spewing them–and tell me otherwise. I dare you.

Limbaugh begins stoking resentment over the Obama’s supposed luxurious lifestyle on the taxpayer’s dime. Instead of eating collared greens, fried chicken and buying their clothing at Walmart, the Obamas are living it up in OUR White House on caviar and champagne, just like poor black folks from the ghetto who suddenly struck it rich by winning the lottery:

LIMBAUGH: “People who are making a go of it are doing it in spite of Obama. He’s jetting all over the place. His wife is jetting all over the place ordering special foods, special clothes, vacationing every other week–four vacations in July alone. Obama and his wife don’t understand what everybody is complaining about. They never had it so good. They don’t want for anything. They don’t even pay for anything. In fact they look at it as if they are owed this. They are owed this.”

“They have been shafted all of their lives because of racial discrimination, because of being a minority. This is the first time Michelle’s Obama’s proud of her country when her husband is running for office. So now–OK fine– it’s our turn. It’s Like Marion Barry said, tonight, tonight we’re on the inside. Well, they’re on the inside now, flying all over the country while everybody else is tightening their belts. Because they deserve it. This is owed to them.”

Limbaugh goes on to claim the press is giving “Michelle “Antoinette” Obama a pass for her inappropriate extravagances, because of her slave past:

LIMBAUGH: “Why isn’t there any outrage similar to any outrage in the media over Nancy Reagan changing the china? Why is there no outrage over Michelle “my belle” Obama with all these expenditures? Sixty secret service people by-the-way on this trip to Spain. The answer is patently obvious. Yah, I guess you’re also asking, why is there so much anger over what the fact that I have earned what I have? It’s as simple as conservative vs. liberal. It’s no more complicated than that. And as far as the media is concerned, Mrs. Obama deserves this. Look at the sordid past. Look at our slave past. look at our discriminatory past. It’s only fair that people of color get their taste of the wealth of America too.”

And for the record, as noted by Media Matters, the Obamas and their friends are paying for their own expenses. “At this point it’s worth noting that press secretary Robert Gibbs explicitly said that “It’s a private trip and is being paid for that way,” but even so I don’t think anyone expects that any member of any first family should or would travel without a security detail and the standard staffing commensurate with what is, after all, the family of the American president.”

Rush Limbaugh is right about one thing: There should be more outrage. There should be outrage over his ugly race-baiting. And it should be condemned by every Republican lawmaker who worships at the feet of the titular leader of the Republican Party. But it won’t happen. That’s the outrage here.

Amen. My parents used to take all 6 of us kids on vacation every year, and this was in the 1950s and 1960s. I can imagine the outrage Lyinbaugh would express at hearing this. After all, African American moms and dads never took their kids on vacation before the Obamas got in the WH. Very ridiculous, and most definitely race baiting. If you don’t know anything about a subject, you shouldn’t talk about it as if you’re an expert. His listeners will buy his insanity hook, line, and sinker, although they know that, in reality, what Lyinbaugh is describing doesn’t exist.
