Alvin Greene Indicted for ‘Disseminating’ Porn, Renewed Calls to Resign

August 13, 2010

(ChattahBox)–Alvin Greene, the unemployed Democratic senatorial candidate from South Carolina, who inexplicably won the primary election, without a campaign website, fundraising or campaigning of any kind, is making the news again. Greene was recently involuntarily discharged from the Army and paid the $10,440 filing fee to run for the senate with his own funds, while facing felony porn charges. Now, the grand jury investigating the charges against Greene, has issued a felony indictment against Greene for “disseminating” Internet obscenity to a college student. The Democratic Party Chair Carol Fowler is renewing calls for Greene to resign from the race.

The indictments against Greene came down on Friday:

“Greene was indicted on one felony count of “disseminating, procuring or promoting obscenity,” according to the Richland County clerk of courts.”

“He was also indicted on a misdemeanor count of “communicating an obscene message to another person without consent.”‘

Fowler previously called for Greene to withdraw from the senate race, when she first learned of the pending porn charges, and she is now renewing her demands for him to please quietly go away. But Greene is not going away, not in the least.

“In June, I asked Mr. Greene to withdraw his candidacy because of the charges against him. Following today’s indictments, I repeat that request,” Fowler said.

“It will be impossible for Mr. Greene to address his legal issues and run a statewide campaign. The indictment renews concerns that Mr. Greene cannot represent the values of the Democratic Party or South Carolina voters.”

Greene originally told the Judge at his bail hearing that the incident was a misunderstanding, and that he was “kidding,” when he showed a freshman college student a phonographic image and asked to go to her room.

Greene faces up to five-years in prison on the felony porn charge and up to three-years on the misdemeanor charge, including penalties.
