Gingrich: Islamic Center Same as ‘Nazis’ Erecting ‘Sign Next to the Holocaust Museum’ (Video)
August 16, 2010
(ChattahBox)—Disgraced former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, fresh off his bashing of gay rights by hypocritically railing against Prop. 8, as an “outrageous disrespect” of the sanctity of marriage, (Newt, thrice married, twice divorced, cheated on former spouses, one when she was battling cancer in the hospital. Also cheated on second wife with much-younger aide, while impeaching Clinton.) is now out front and center to spew out incendiary religious bigotry. Gingrich has been speaking out against the the Islamic Cordoba House community center with his typical overheated rhetoric. After President Obama’s speech supporting religious freedom, Gingrich went on the attack, saying Obama was “pandering to radical Islam.” But this morning on Fox & Friends, Gingrich went all out with his religious bigotry, comparing the Islamic Center two blocks from Ground Zero, to Nazis erecting signs next to the Washington, DC Holocaust Museum. And this hypocritical clown thinks he is running for President in 2012. America wants leaders Newt, not rabble-rousing demagogues, who would dangerously divide our country for political gain.
Gingrich made his remarks during a Monday morning appearance on Fox & Friends, wherein the Fox & Friends crew kept nodding their air-filled heads in agreement:
GINGRICH: It’s not about the right– First of all, there are over 100 Mosques in New York City. So, people have the right to freedom of religion if they want it. I’ve said it openly, if they want to build this mosque in the South Bronx I’m all for it. Governor Paterson’s offered them state land, which interestingly, I don’t know of any state that has offered a church or synagogue free land, but he’s trying to solve the problem by getting them away from the site. The folks that want to build this mosque who are really radical Islamists who want to triumphantly prove they can build a mosque right next to a place where 3000 Americans were killed by radical Islamists; those folks don’t have any interests in reaching out to the community. They are trying to make a case about supremacy. That’s why they won’t go anywhere else. That’s why they won’t accept any other offer. And I think we ought to be honest about the fact that we have a right. And this happens all the time in America. Nazis don’t have the right to put up a sign next to the Holocaust Museum in Washington. We would never accept the Japanese putting up a site next to Pearl Harbor. There’s no reason for us to accept a Mosque next to the World Trade Center.
For the record, there is absolutely no evidence that the developer of the Islamic center, Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf is a radical Islamist, as Gingrich asserts. In fact, Imam Rauf promotes peace, moderation and tolerance. And since the Bush administration, Rauf has assisted the White House with Muslim outreach efforts, by participating in a program “geared toward “promoting religious tolerance” and “bring[ing] a moderate perspective to foreign audiences on” being “Muslim in the United States.”
Gingrich is engaging in the worst sort of demagoguery.
