Nuclear Official: Iran Has Enough Uranium For Two Atom Bombs

August 26, 2010

(ChattahBox) – A former International Atomic Energy Agency director has come forward claiming that Iran has stockpiled enough low-enriched uranium in order to create two nuclear weapons. However, he says they known it would not be worth creating the weapons for such a small arsenal.

Olli Heinonen was formerly the director general of the IAEA, and he was responsible for leading nuclear inspections globally for the United Nations. He stepped down earlier this month for personal reasons, but has been surprisingly candid about Iran and their suspected nuclear program.

According to him, Iran has been stockpiling low-enriched uranium for some time, and that while they are unlikely to create the small number of atomic bombs that could result, they are still a threat.

However, the uranium type can also be used to fuel nuclear power plants, giving Iran a platform to claim their continued journey towards a nuclear energy source.
