Anti-Obama Billboard Owners Angered by ‘Orwellian Attack’ on Freedoms
September 2, 2010
(ChattahBox Political News)— Steve Critchfield and Bob Huels are a couple of conservative guys struggling to make a living in the Ozarks under what they view, as a “quasi-socialistic” federal government that’s led by an “anti-business, anti-capitalism president.” And worse, after the near collapse of our economy two-years ago, this socialistic President Obama championed and signed a Wall Street reform bill into law, to ensure that greedy Wall Street profiteers would never again, gamble away the life savings of Americans. Well that was the last straw for Critchfield and Huels. They view Wall Street reform as a “governmental takeover” and an “Orwellian attack” on their freedoms. Do you socialists see the words Wall Street reform anywhere in the Constitution? Well, do you? What about the word ObamaCare?
The billboard looms over Highway 65 South of Ozark, MO. It shows a head shot of President Obama, accompanied with the questions:
Voted Obama? Embarrassed Yet?
Local station KY3 aired a story on the sign that was erected the beginning of August and paid for by Critchield and Huels. The two men say they have received death threats and have been called racists, since the billboard went up. They are surprised by the negative response, claiming their intent was to start a conversation.
“My partner and I felt lots of frustration here lately, and we liked that sign and we thought that was a reasonable question to ask,” Steve Critchfield said in a telephone interview on Monday.
Critchfield and his business partner from Commercial One Brokers, a real estate firm in Branson, saw a similar sign online, bought it, and brought it to the Ozarks.
“I’ve certainly voted for people I’m embarrassed to say I’ve voted for,” he said. “We’re not naïve enough to think that we wouldn’t get someone to be upset. I’m just surprised how upset people are.”
After the report on the billboard aired, Huels posted a long anti-Obama rant on his company’s commercial real estate website, blaming KY3 for stirring up controversy.
“I see we have gotten a lot of traffic on our Blog over the weekend and yesterday. Well, I guess KY3 should be proud of the controversy it stirred up Sunday night. It seems a billboard that our company (my partner and I ) had installed over a month ago got to be on the news Sunday night.”
Huels went on to tick off the various socialist anti-business policies he believes President Obama, a moderate centrist Democrat, has inflicted on his America. Like the mantra of the tea party protesters screeching they want their country back, Huels and Crtichield are pining for “the path back to the America many of our citizens miss so much.” What that means in reality, is they want a Republican white guy in the White House who doesn’t have a scary sounding foreign name.
“The billboard was our question to the public in response to the many quasi-socialistic policies President Obama and his administration have instilled this past 18 or so months. It was our reaction to the Insurance Company sending us a 30% increase due to the future that “ObamaCare” regulations were going to cause. It was in reaction to financial reform that was just shy of governmental takeover of Wall Street. It was installed in reaction to our perception of a total disregard for what the public desires and an Orwellian attack on our freedoms. Most importantly it was a reaction from us to the anti-business, anti-capitalism attitude displayed by our president and his administration on a daily basis.”
Huels says he isn’t racist and points out that only people opposed to the billboard brought up President Obama’s race. And about the birther conspiracy theory—
Huels writes President Obama acts un-American. “You know, we don’t much care weather (sic) he was born in America or not, we just want the man to start acting more like an American,” says Huels in his post.
Apparently, Wall Street Reform and healthcare reform are un-American. Who knew?
